After completing a Foundation Course at Oxford Brookes, William Papworth studied Fine Art at Kingston School of Art from 2016 to 2019. After graduating, he built a small garden studio in East Sussex, where he taught himself to throw and fire ceramics. In early 2024, William became a member of Standpoint Studios in the Old Street area of London.
William’s work is predominantly hand-thrown on the potter’s wheel, producing both unique and repeated forms that reflect his appreciation for simple, ergonomic design. Comfort and practicality are central to his approach. His glazes share a natural, subdued palette, with a particular interest in matte finishes and crackle effects. The subtle alchemy and vast possibilities within ceramics continually inspire his practice, driving him to explore new glaze recipes and ideas that shape an ever-evolving body of work.
